Being a nature lover i am very blessed to be staying at Prevelly, just a few minutes walk to the beaches, The Rivermouth , Suffers Point Southside, Gnarabup beach and all the way to Redgate beach.
1. The Beaches
Clean soft sand with clear water. Here's the catch, during my stay although it was summer it was still too cold to soak in the water. I couldn't really lie in my bikini because the wind was too cold and strong for me. But wrapping myself up and watching the sunset where the God rise kisses the ocean was the most beautiful thing i saw.
If you are planing for a picnic, i highly suggest you picnic at the King's Park Perth instead because there are less flies there at this time around.
There are two electronic barbecue stations here at rivermouth if you wish to have a barbecue, press start and it will heat up for 20 minutes, but you will need to walk maybe 100 meters away to the public wash room to get clear water.
If you are a surfer of any kind, you probably already know about this pace, if you don't then It's kind of a surfer haven, surfers are here in the morning, afternoon and evenings, sometimes they even surf several times a day.
My Goodness, i don't even know where to start. For the shopaholics there's a shop here where you can get a wide range of homemade jams , relish , sauces, fresh Avocados and many more. My personal favorite is the passion fruit butter and habanero sauce. YES you can have a hygiene taste test before you purchase. The blueberries here cost AUD 5 each box and sour sweet (maybe its seasonal, i dont know), i recommend you buy it from coast storage in Singapore 3 for SGD 9.90 and SWEET.
How can i miss coffee in scenery as such, surrounded by tree shades in the out door and birds that would share some of your sugar if you don't mind, i even spotted a parrot but nope it wasn't interested with sweets or pie.
There's also a public garden called "Berry Circle" where you can pick whatever berry you can find and eat it right there and then.
If you have kids who can't stay still , there is 2 playground there and a giant chess game for them to use up their energy.
3. The Caves
The caves are for the nature lovers, photographers and artist of nature. Jewel cave tour is about 45 minutes going down about 40 meters deep . The lake cave is maybe 20 or 30 minutes, a very short walk, but both has its on uniqueness and beauty in my opinion. I'ts not for everyone but if you are somewhat interested then why not, at least go for one of the caves to experience Margaret river.
4. Lighthouse
At first i thought it was nothing special, it's just a light house and a far view of the ocean so~~
oh how wrong i was. what the place looked like was not as important as how the place made me feel and how i have left changed. The tour guide Shaun (i think) anyway a bold tall tour guide, settle humorous and not to mention quite charming for a Man made it interesting and safe for our trip.
But most of all is the stories he told, and it made me realize how the lighthouse is one of the most generous miracle on earth, shining its light to all no matter who you are, to keep you away from crashing into rocks and fall into the unforgiving waves with sharks hunting for prey. The fact that to know your boat is in a safe range is to see the light very tiny and faded, to me it's like having to see the hope of light, knowing that i'm close to shore and someone is out there when i am in danger but tearing my heart because the brighter it shines it's telling me the nearer i am to danger and the further i need to be away from the Light.
If you do happen to go to the lighthouse and caves, keep the receipts , you can get a discounted upgrade for your next tour.
5. Okay in full honesty i am torn between hitting the nougat/dairy/providore/chocolate company or the winery~
How about go for them all if Time is not an issue :)
Nougat - many unique nougat such as vanilla maple pecan nut, white chocolate & apricot , yahava koffee & almond, cookies & cream, honey& toasted almond, lavender, apple and cinnamon, pistachio, rum & raisins, chai, and the list goes on. Another of my fav is the vanilla / honey nougat liquor, slurp~ yum~
Dairy - if your into cheese. I'm into blue cheese and Gouda cheese which they don't have. if you like cheddar and brie you can drop by why not right.
Providore - lemon curt, passion fruit curt, sauces, assorted infused olive oils, ready mix pancakes, risotto... it was all good :)
Chocolate company on the other hand i suggest the chocolate house in Perth near the house of honey. we all feel that the chocolate house in perth is more flavorful in its cocoa and the variety is more homemade.
We were lucky to be the only group for the 11am wine tour so it was a privet tour learning about the history of Leeuwin estate, how wine is made, a tour in their art gallery and drink all we want during wine tasting.
By lunch time, i was feeling extra relax from the wine tasting session. their bread is amazingly good, toasty and crunchy on the crust outside and warm and soft on the inside of the bread . Everything you see, everything we had here was a gastronomyly satisfying experience. I wouldn't miss it.
